I rarely rate coffee shops but this one deserves it!
The employees here were super friendly and accommodating - even when some customers were what I would consider rude!
I was en route to an appointment at DOT, but arrived too early. Since it's been a while since I've been in this area - probably some 15 years (seriously - don't judge me I moved away), I recognized absolutely nothing!
If I recall correctly the Ships Bell was in this location. The Ships Bell was a diner that had toasters on each table as it's gimmick. Pretty cool as no matter when you ate your toast was always hot!
There's a lot of parking here - but it is shared with the other 200 businesses so plan to wait a bit trying to find parking. I drove around a bit until one opened up...maybe 10 minutes? It was around 2pm on a Friday so use your judgment.
Ray, the Barista that assisted me was very cool! When I asked for a BIG Vanilla Latte - it was obvious I was unsure so he asked if I wanted the 32 oz or the 24 oz? I had never heard of a 32 oz cup of coffee as a single serving...EVER!
So, I asked, "Seriously? Who the fuck drinks a 32 oz Latte?" He laughed. It was a moment.
I like making staff at places I frequent laugh because as I have been in EVERY POSITION in the food services industry I know how shitty people can act towards the "help".
The other person that was super helpful was Samantha. She was cleaning up and wiping down the counter and the set-your-Coffee-up-however-you-want-it station (condiment station) and I mentioned how much the area had changed. She was steady doing her job and never looked annoyed by me talking to her. She was very pleasant all through it. There was a lady at the counter who was very brash - I'm thinking it was a cultural thing. All I can say is had this lady been in NYC and sounded the way she did - the employee there would probably have kicked her out or asked why she was being so short. But, Samantha handled it like a pro!
I do hope management sees this review and shares it with their staff.
I am an Executive Chef. I deal with the public all the time. I can tell you it ain't all rainbows and sprinkles! Customers can be quirky and a pain-in-The-ass at times but when you're a pro in THIS industry - you chalk it up to just another day.
So, when I'm back in this area, I will stop by because I know I will he welcomed. I in turn will be grateful for them.
I also ordered a Bran Muffin - that I asked to not be warmed. I got it warmed. And I couldn't have been happier. Ray was right.
To finish I want to say the place is pretty damned clean too. The bathroom was clean and smelled clean. Samantha was on top of it!
I guess the moral of my story is two-fold...
1st - when you're on the west side I'm Culver City - you should stop by this place for good coffee because STARBUCKS IS SHIT COFFEE! And of you argue it's because you either have no sense of taste or simply have no taste!
2nd - How you approach the people who "serve" you should be down conscientiously. If you do that the experience will be that much better for the both of you!
Support COFFEE BEAN & TEA LEAF wherever you find one. They serve a great cup of coffee and they serve it with a REAL SMILE!
Thanks Ray & Samantha.

BEWARE!
The reason why I am giving this location one star is because of an extremely inappropriate person who hangs out there and made me feel very uncomfortable. The first time I encountered this person, I was with my friend. We got some coffee and sat outside. An individual approached us and sat in front of us. Right away it was very clear something was off. There were plenty of empty seats available at that time and he also did not have a coffee bean drink with him. He was staring at us so we got uncomfortable and left. He then followed us almost all to the way to the Brazilian restaurant across and then left. Two months later, I came in around 4pm, got a coffee and sat outside (same spot). He shows up and does the same thing! Sits in front of me with no drink while there are plenty of empty seats. This time, I recognized him right away and immediately went back inside thinking he would leave. I took a sit at one of the tables and a few minutes later he shows up in front of my table! He didn't sit with me but he stared for a moment and then sat at one of the sofa chairs. That was the last straw. I packed my stuff ready to leave but before I did, I told the staff and security and let them know where he was sitting. They said they were going to take a picture of him and I left the store. As I walked to the cashier counter, I saw him staring at me and biting his nails! His behavior felt very inappropriate and the reason I am writing this review, is to warn others in case his intentions are bad. I don't know what his intentions are or if he might just be non verbal and trying to communicate... But his behavior and glares were alarming enough to me to not want to go back there.

This is one of the better coffee locations in Culver City available parking always. Lots of seats inside and out side easy location to find staff is very quick do not have to repeat your order twice
